These hard drives leverage conventional hardware and firmware, while featuring a second-generation, two-stage microactuator that improves head positioning accuracy for better drive performance.

Write performance enhancements are also supported by Western Digital's media cache architecture.

Finally, the addition of a flash drive-based non-volatile cache (NVC) helps improve write performance.
